So, those of you who know and love me, I mean really Love me have put up with my crazy power affected life for 7 months now. Yes, it has been that long. I have gone from a flower growing Hermit to an empowered advocate for plants, wildlife, and the well being of people affected by the Bonneville Power Administration's I-5 Corridor Reinforcement Project. More than ever I know the REAL & IMPORTANT things of this EARTH & PLANET we all share.
Tomorrow my youngest heads off to experience a new type of power. The kind we experience when we first inter-are. She is bringing all the seeds of love I have sown in her life to be planted and sprout into a mighty power line. One that will grow taller and last longer than any electric power line man could ever create. Because it contains the elements all REAL things need to survive, Love not power.

Flat Stanley visits Aunt Erin

This week my niece Kiera sent Flat Stanley to visit along with a note asking that I help him learn about different places, landmarks, and people in my area. I am so honored. We have enjoyed his visit thus far, he has been to the Energy Trust Better Living Show @ the Portland Expo Center. I was very discouraged with the show at first, it was very commercial and I felt quite out of place until we came to the Opal Creek Booth (www.opalcreek.org) they made me feel at home as we shared favorite hiking trail info. They shared that Multnomah Falls was getting boring and had not heard of Moulton, Lucia, and Sunset Falls on the East Fork of the Lewis River by my home. We listened to the discussion on Sustainability which consisted of a panel of 5 people, one from the Sierra Club, one from Portland Mayor Sam Adams office, I will write in more detail about this later but I asked a question at the end, the only one to ask a question and was told "No one wants to touch that. The question of course involved the BPA and possible destruction of the important Environmental Areas that currently exist here in my area by a 70 mile 500Kv line. If we fail to seriously care about and consider these questions before destroying these rare diverse Ecosystems because they are out of sight out of mind now, what do we tell Kiera and Flat Stanley when they have no more clean air, water, biodiverse native plant life???? , and the people selling Sustainability books are long gone??? I could use some words but I do not want Kiera or Flat Stanley to hear them. Next I spoke with Oregon Wild and of course we connected they gave me a beautiful book Oregon Wild Endangered Forest Wilderness thank you my friends, visit www.oregonwild.org. I also met Tammy Weisman of the Lower Columbia Fish Enhancement Group www.Icfeg.org, bought some Willows to be dedicated they were caring anyway. visit www.Icfeg.org. And finally my favorite and most kindered Oregon Cougar Action Team ..Saving Oregon's Cougar and rich biodiversity they sustain. ( WWW.OreCat.org ) Here I met Jayne A. Miller of Grape Lane Poultry Farm (www.GrapeLanePoultryFarm.org) Best part of my day!! She is a Farmer, Herbalist, published Author and Artist fellow United Plant Savers gal. Look forward to helping OreCat and getting to know Jayne and her group better. Please keep praying for my precious Botanical Sanctuary, the plants, animals and watershed here in the NorthEast corner of Southwest Washington. Yes I am only 45 minutes from the Portland Expo Center so if you think big environmental changes here will not affect you you are sadly mistaken.

Plant Nerd Night

I haven't posted in a while because life has kept me busy, busy, busy. Not long ago I was blessed to attend Plant Nerd Night in Lake Oswego, Oregon with my dear friend Debbie. She has an amazing Clematis Nursery called Silver Star Vinery. We have had so much fun getting to know each other. She is a fellow plant junkie like me. These pictures are from Nerd Plant Night which I highly recommend if you have never gone, and Silver Star Vinery which is beautiful and full of extremely healthy well loved Clematis. I picked up 5 yesterday and 3 at plant Nerd Night so I now have 10. Till I met Debbie I had no idea what variety Clematis had in bloom type, size, etc. I especially love this quote on the Tee-Shirt.

Juneau Blossoms

Spring is on the way with the exception of a few snow flakes last week. Juneau loved the cherry blossoms fully though she is not supposed to be on the table. she enjoyed the beautiful table cloth my dear friend Florence gave me too. Who wouldn't want to lay under blossoms like this for a day?

Girlfriend Valentines

Saturday February 6th, my Dear Friends and I got together
Our day was spent sharing Valentines, a potluck lunch to which we each bring a different element. I brought many veggie soup a favorite in my home, Robin brought an amazing salad with hand roasted pecans, Florence made mini quiche and lavender lemonade & Katy an incredible apple dessert. It is always fun to see what each one of us brings for the day in food, fun and fellowship. We started getting together monthly just one year ago. It is hard to believe a year has gone by and how close we have all become. I could not have imagined all the adventures and misadventures this past year brought into our lives. Having friends to share with has made the unbearable things survivable, the adventures funnier, and life in general richer. Each one of my girlfriends is extremely talented as you can see from this beautiful quilt Florence just whipped up, and the wool pillows Robin taught us to create. Katy is our master chef and poet, we are hoping to publish some of her great works soon. Florence provided the setting which as she always does, gave us a magical, wonderfully comfortable place to come together and create. I left feeling very loved, cared for and warmed by my fellow Smokin' Hot Mary Jane's( a name we penned and laughed about at one of our very first meetings) Wishing you the love of warm friends & family this Valentine's Day.

Tired, Exhausted, worked on the BPA thing way too long

As I go to post this my daughter gave me the title. I now have a latch key husband, children and even my kitten. Just grateful they all miss and love me so. I long for days when I could walk my creek bed, and just marvel at it's beauty not stress about possible 500Kv running over it. But this journey has brought so many amazing people into my life you cannot imagine. I have heard stories of a blind woman who lives right next to Moulton Falls park here in Clark County. The picture of the ravine and river (East Fork of the Lewis) are from her place. It has incredible views which I cannot imagine placing power lines over. Eagles nest there, and her children, and grandchildren are there with her now. She has 7 wonderful children who have come to help her. They told me stories of this property being in their family since 1912. Her husband recently passed away and she could not read the " Letter of Intent " she received from BPA and was scared. I have come to know my neighbor Debbie, clematis grower extraordinaire(silver star clematis) who has become very dear to me in this last month. Another neighbor down the road who is a mapping pro & guitar player. I am tired, exhausted, worked on the BPA far too long, but I am also very blessed with many people, places and spaces that I love with my whole heart. Hope I can see them all be protected and well. Rally @ BPA Portland, Oregon

I recently attended a peaceful Rally at Bonneville Power Administration Portland, Oregon(next to Lloyd Center) Our hope is for people to understand the number of homes and critical ecosystem that stands to be destroyed and forever changed should this 70 mile/500 KV(the highest voltage lines allowable) go through from Troutdale, Oregon to Castle Rock, Washington. It will probably be going through my backyard. You can see what my yard looks like from the pictures on this blog. It is a "Ferngully" or "Avaitar" (Southwest Washington Rainforest) right here in these United States. This week I attended an EFSEC(WA State Energy Facility Evaluation Council) Meeting. We as citizen's were allowed 5 minutes to speak and had to keep our comments, and letter within tight parameter's. Our concern's were largely ignored but we had one angel in the form of Hedia Adelsman-Dept. of Ecology who recommended the Bonneville Power Administration's Work Plan have some wording changed.
It will now go back to be adjusted and resubmitted Feb. 9th. On the way Hedia suggested the Clark County Commissioner's be spoken with since they have shown us (Clark County WA. Citizen's) support as stated in our letter. This process has been a hard lesson in just how rare it is to get Senator's, Congressmen, and people in power to listen. To find a route to be heard. When you are telling them the truth, and it affects Good People, endangered plant, amphibian, bird, insect & animal species. I don't know the answer yet. At the rally we were shuffled from Woody Guthrie Courtyard to a park by Lloyd Center all because peaceful citizen's who are important parts of these United States, who live in the areas that will be affected, have critical detail to share, but I don't have 50 attorney's on staff or an endless supply of funding. Just me and the truth that if these sacred families, this River, my 600 year old fir snag are destroyed these United States and everyone in them will lose something more important than money or power. We will lose the well being of our future.

Farm Chick Friends

Happy New Year to YOU!! 2010 will be much better than last year. It started with a wonderful get together with my Farmgirl friends, Florence, Robin and Katy to craft, share lunch and holiday tales. My dear friend Florence welcomed us to her home which is always so warm, filled with love, and a lifetime of gathered sacred objects, memories, hand made heart filled dreams. I wish you such moments as this year begins with angels to watch over you like our hand-made creations above. I just love the glow on Florence's face below. She bundled the crazy snowmen I've made her and has an awesome picture of her grandson enjoying them on her blog Essences of the Past. The last picture was on her cabinet full of silver frames with an incredible collection of family photographs thru the generations. How lucky to have such a treasure and put it together so beautifully.

A Cherokee tale of Creation

Many moons ago, the Great Sun created the plants and trees. Then he blessed them with the gift of green, so that they might bring forth fruit and flowers. All was well for a time, but the the Great One withdrew his face. The winds came down from the mountains of the north, and gray clouds jostled above the earth.
"Oh Father, don't leave us!" cried the plants.
"Give us your light and your warmth!" cried the trees.
But day by day the Great Sun sank lower in the sky, and the long nights were as black as a crow's wing. Then the vines began to wither, and frost touched the grasses of the meadows. A curtain of clouds covered the heavens.
"Dear Father, we will die without you," wailed the trees and plants. "Come back! Come back!"
"He's coming," whispered the clouds. "His face has turned in the sky."
The plants and trees were full of joy at the good news. Eager to greet their dear father, they decided to stay awake every night and watch for his return.
Sumac, sassafras, and purple aster put forth brilliant colors to welcome the Great Sun. But after a night of watching, they fell asleep.
The dogwoods and alders watched for two nights, but soon their boughs grew heavy and they feel asleep.
The maples and poplars whispered to each other, "We will not give in to sleep," But soon they were slumbering under the cold stars like the others.
When the Great Sun came from his wigwam on the dawn of the seventh day, the skies were clear. He looked down on the forests and meadows below. The only plants and trees awake to greet him were the pine, the fir, the spruce, the holly, and the laurel.
"For your faithfulness I will give you the gift of green forever," said the Great Sun to the plants and trees who welcomed him. "The others will drop their leaves or sleep through the winter, but you will remain awake. Your color a promise of my return to all who see you."
AND HE SENT A STREAM OF LIGHT ACROSS THE SLEEPING EARTH.

Winter Solstice and God's hand in our lives

Yesterday my husband journeyed to our neighbors on foot. He called to tell me a chunk of one of our many ancient fir snags had fallen off and was amazing to see. He had forgotten how large and amazing they really are. He said you should bring your camera and come look. So I did, it was pouring down rain but this is what I saw. This is just a chunk from this tree and it is as tall as I am sideways on the ground. That is 5'7". The picture's with my hand and boot are to show you how large one branch from this tree was. Remember this tree is at least 600 years old, survived two Yacolt Burns around 1902 and 100 plus years since, and this is what is left. I can stick my whole arm into one of the rings from a branch. For me this is one of God's wonders I wish you could see first hand.
So I will write a tale above that reminds me how precious our lives are and some of what God's hand in our lives means to me. Happy Winter Solstice and enjoy the lengthening days and a Very Merry Christmas as Jesus light comes to shine in our lives.

Gifts that last beyond Christmas

Here is my quaint old fashioned small town of Yacolt, Washington. You may not see its value at first glance but I can assure you it has great value in this world of 10,000 text messages, replaceable TV shows, appliances, computers and the like. This train gets dolled up for Christmas every year and takes visitors from surrounding Vancouver and Portland on a magical journey through the woods and back for a tree. Moments that you remember as an excited child or nostalgic adult. Unlike those 10,000 text my daughter made last month that when asked is one memorable enough to save? she answers NO. Here is the Yacolt City Courthouse. It is so old it still has the funky 1890's bars on the cells. The Yacolt City Council is so kind and welcoming when I recently visited to share news of the BPA I-5 Corridor Reinforcement Project they greeted me with open arms and even made sure to bring water to drink, share jokes, and then got involved with integrity, action, and care so uncommon in this modern world. The tree in this picture gets decked out for Christmas every year and on the 4th of July there is a Rendezvous, and parade where children and adults still share the spirit of what makes this Country great, caring for neighbors and all the things around us not just for personal gain or prestige. On the fourth kids do sidewalk chalk drawing all over the town, isn't this one wonderful. It reminds me of my experiences growing up in Clark County attending George C. Marshall Elementary School where we sang "Washington MY HOME", My Country Tis of Thee, and This Land is Your Land. I was the Treasurer of my Elementary School and since this Christmas has brought a need for me to connect and communicate with public officials like never before in my life, due to the BPA I am searching, and hoping to find some who still operate for the common good of us all. So far Yacolt City Council, The Clark County Commissioners, Representative Orcutt, and Senator Honeywell have greatly impressed me with their actions and integrity. The stair case to Patty Murray and Maria Cantwells Clark County offices has a big picture of George C. Marshall but, it took a physical visit to get a response, 2 letters and e-mails did nothing. I hope that will change. Since Brian Baird went to the Galapagos Islands to learn about Global Warming I am hoping he will take 10 minutes to realize the impact the BPA I-5 Corridor Project will have on Clark Counties Global Warming situation. The bottom picture shows you some of the incredible rare plants and flowers from my property that will be destroyed to make way for more TV's, Computers, Air Conditioners and such if this project goes thru line#29. Fran Gillette from our area has a new cookbook out this year, she is famous for them, the patriotism and wisdom they hold. My favorite quote from this cookbook is:

My daughter Lynz and I woke up to the most beautiful morning. We grabbed our cameras and slipped on our boots and ran out to take pictures in our bathrobes..sorry no pictures available of those episodes. We owed and awed, took picture after picture til our fingers were numb. Then ran back inside excited to download our shots and share the results. It is amazing something so cold can be so incredibly gorgeous.

It is very cold here today, my pond is frozen, ice crystals cover the foxglove,
this morning the sky was clear and suddenly dark clouds moved across, an amazing sight.
The last picture in the group shows scenes from my area and cards I gathered at Wednesday's Yacolt Meeting of Citizen's affected by the proposed BPA I-5 Corridor Project. It includes the picture of kayakers I showed Mark Korsness Senior Project Manager for this project. I will write more about this meeting soon.
Prior to the meeting I stumbled upon NATURAL OREGON by Dennis Newman who was kind enough to ask if I would send him a brief summary of the Yacolt, Washington meeting. Please visit NATURAL OREGON to visit Dennis and his wonderful writing.

Our Reflection in a Flower

My daughter took these beautiful pictures at Clark College this week.
She also attended the Yacolt Primary Citizen organized BPA I-5 Corridor Reinforcement Meeting with me this week, helping at the sign in table, setting up chairs and enduring hours in a cold school gym. She is a flower I AM forever grateful for.
When we sat down to look at the pictures we realized her reflection was in the rain drops on some of the petals in the same way we are all present in every word we speak, every action we take.
Often it just takes a closer look to see what is Real.
I love the picture she took with the Clark College Pen beside it as writing seems to be a daily part of my life now and flowers always and ever will be.
I hope you get to take a deep breath today and take a deep close look at this beautiful world that surrounds you. Where will your Reflection be?

On Dole Valley Bridge

Snow and the River

My peaceful little valley has had its first snow already. The 500kv powerlines I have spoken of in earlier posts are proposed to cross the East Fork of the Lewis River either side of the Dole Valley Bridge. I think it would be quite a shame to lose views such as those from the bridge.

Foggy Fall

So here is the entrance to my home in the hills. The fog rising from the fir covered hills was amazing. Maidenhair Ferns on the right will soon disappear and will sleep hidden in the rocks from which they spring back to life around April. The Red Alder are dropping their leaves to tuck everything below them in for safe winter keeping. You can feel the quiet peace rising from the valley floor as Winter begins.

My Deer Family

So today IAM posting some special members of my circle, they look after this land with reverence. Every year since I first moved here it has been a blessing to watch their families and generations. We generally have at least 2 sets of twins in the spring and one or two single fawns. These pictures show the progression of our single fawn friend and my newest family member Juneau(the cat) The first picture was taken in the Spring of 2009 and shows a pregnant Mom, then you see our little fawn friend finding his legs and learning to explore his surroundings. Yes this is a little buck. They love to run around at this stage full of energy. It is really quite comical. Portrait with his Mom and then

little buck decided to become friends.

French Larkspur & the "Beloved Community"

What a great blog name. I received a nice message from French Larkspur this morning . She is clear across the Country from where I live but took the time to share her story with me. Visit her blog it has a wonderful poem full of faith and all the good, chippy qualities in life that turn us into diamonds in the end.
You can reach French Larkspur from my blog. In her poem she talks about a community she is proud to call friends.
Yesterday my mother gave me an article to read by Thich Nhat Hanh from The Mindfulness Bell, Summer 2009. It speaks of a "Beloved Community" and a letter that was written in 1965 to tell Martin Luther King of the suffering in Vietnam and the results of that letter, of having the courage to reach out and speak up. Of the seeds for GOOD that can come from doing so.
It speaks of the want to help President Barack Obama to nourish and protect him because he is vulnerable to attack just like my 600 year old fir snag and my "Beloved Community". Today I plant seeds in hope they will travel and sprout everywhere and connect us all in right speech, right action, right thinking, truth and in prayer that my small voice will be heard. I want a safe, healthy Clark County and beyond. I want you to see the flowers here and to BE STILL AND KNOW the truth that lives in this valley. Hope in Hockinson & Beyond

Today I found Hope in Hockinson & Beyond. First I was honored and blessed to meet Roger a very committed and compassionate person, not at all what I expected in a financial consultant. He had good ideas and suggestions. Roger is a person who walks his talk and that is the best anyone can do.
Next I was invited to attend a meeting in Hockinson on the BPA I-5 Corridor Reinforcement Project. I met an older couple, a widow with 3 children, her wonderful caring daughter, a man who does MRI's and knows they effect the heart greatly, people who work for the school district, firemen, Chennel 12 News, neighbors, friends.
We are all scrambling to learn so much in a very small time frame. How will EMF waves effect our families, children, animals, plants, ground and waterways? How tall are 500 kilovolt towers? Who will listen and care? We must publicly respond by November 23rd and we need YOU. Wherever you are across these great United States to lend us your voice. Write to your Senators, Congressmen, President, BPA. Don't let us become endangered species.
Help us keep power lines from destroying scenes like these from my yard.
Tonight gave me hope because we shared our stories and cared about each other .

And Yes this 600 year old fir snag has many stories yet to be told. Many residents. This tree was standing on this very ground when the Declaration of Independence was signed. When the Mayflower landed.
As my dear Virgil Wallace told me it was much bigger because it lived thru 2 major forest fires. But it is still here standing its ground.

These pictures were taken in my yard which is a temperate rainforest in Clark County, WA.

This pumpkin had a tiny ladybug crawling on it yesterday when these pictures were taken.

My little niece who is suppose to be napping. Sure would like to take a nap myself these days.

600 years older than any Vancouver Building

The 600 year old douglas fir snag pictured at the top of my blog is older than any building in Clark County, WA. I love antiques but this beats any I know of. It takes three people or more to stretch their arms around this tree. This tree has survived 2 major forest fires in the Yacolt burn, the Columbus Day Storm, the stock market crash of 1929, the current economic crash .. so far. My friend Virgil Wallace(who has passed on) was a logger who wrote some wonderful books available at the Vancouver and Battle Ground Public Libraries, North Clark Historic Museum, and Poteets Nursery in Amboy, WA. A fellow nature lover we spent many hours hiking together and shared dinner under this ancient snag. My logger friend would not cut down a snag like this he considered it full of life and value as I do. It is pictured sideways but is much taller and more dramatic in person. Early summer of 2009 a bald eagle circled it. I have pictures of this but my photography is not the best. Everything from Piliated(Woody woodpecker type) hummingbirds, chipmunks, etc. exsist in this tree. At Clark College Wednesday night the BPA Environmental person told me it is dead and if the power lines go thru my place as proposed it will be cut down. How long have you stood on this earth? What do you think about this tree????

Where I Love

Below are pictures of the area I live in. It currently has incredible scenic beauty as you will see if you check back over the next few weeks or so. Thank You to everyone who is saying prayers for all that is held dear in this valley and the places impacted by the I-5 Corridor project.

So first you will see the Moulton Falls Bridge and a sign posted at the park which is right by my home. Then a picture of my husband in our yard, one of my son and I in our yard after visiting the vegetable garden where right behind us the proposed power lines would go, or on top of us. And then a pumpkin that grew in my garden this year which will be made into healthy pumpkin soup.

I have decided to compile a book filled with as many stories as people are willing to share who have been affected by this proposed power line. Much like the books of my dear friend Virgil Wallace who has now passed on. It is my hope this will benefit the people and lands that are being effected by this project and document the past and present of this area. Over this past week I have attended 3 meetings that were not a part of my life one week ago. 2 were BPA mtgs. Amboy & Clark College and the 3rd City of Vancouver/Van Mall. Fear and Force flew around all three, Tuesday a bigger than expected crowd drove clear out to Amboy, WA to be greeted with unclear laminated maps regarding their homes and lives. Wednesday a much smaller crowd visited Clark College met with 6-7 stations, Environment(who says my 600 year old snag/older than any building in Clark County) has no life and would be mowed down. This summer a Bald Eagle circled this snag that is filled with woodpeckers, hummingbirds, chipmunks, just to name a few condo residents, Civil Engineers( the most honest person I met) Road Maint. etc. My husband was in a car accident Wed. night and by the Thursday's Vancouver meeting being told the line would not be following I-5 because they want a completely new power source my tears began to fall. Then I asked some friends say prayers and I have faith in the GOOD of this world. Thanks to Robin & Florence for helping me not feel alone. Love, Erin

Untold Stories & Ramblings of an old Woodswoman

There once was a little girl who grew up in Clark County, WA. She already had many untold stories starting about the age of 5 and by the time she hit 14 she was changing her little brothers diaper and was pulled by the arm into her room and hit against all 4 walls. The quote that day was prove to me once and for all you love me more than her. The girl did not understand why she was attacked in such a way. Now she is grown she has raised beautiful children with good hearts and has tried to live in balance and harmony with her family and community. But once again she is being pulled from the room and beat around all 4 walls for no good reason only this time it is not just her but many other people, there is a beautiful scenic ecosystem, plants, animals, unreplaceable waterways involved. She is still unsure of who to talk to and where to turn just like that 14 year old girl who's story remains untold.
Please help if you hear this untold story.

Have you heard about the I-5 Corridor Reinforcement Project? It is a proposed project for 500-kilovolt transmission lines(these are big, big lines) to run the length of Clark County from Troutdale, Oregon to Castle Rock, Washington. One of the proposed routes goes thru my HOME. When I say HOME it means not only my house but land, plants and animals I have come to love and cherish.
We were notified via mail about this on Thursday October 22, 2009 and received a letter from the U.S. Department of Energy-Bonneville Power Administration
PERMISSION TO ENTER PROPERTY 2 days later on Saturday October 24th, 2009, yes my friends and fellow bloggers the day of Cindy Dockins TARTE sale.

The beginning paragraph of the Bonnieville Power Administration letter which you can find atwww.bpa.gov/go/i5 says.. The July 2009 heat wave brought unusual attention to the region's electric power system. Daily media alerts in the Portland/Vancouver metropolitan area questioned whether the power system could generate and deliver sufficent power to keep air conditioning units running, and whether the system could hold up under stresses caused by the heat and demand for power.

Those who know me know how deep my love of nature is but many of you are not aware how truly beautiful this area is. I was told by Steve Prickett of BPA these lines would exceed 150 feet in a valley such as Dole Valley where I live. If you look at the BPA I-5 Corridor Reinforcement Project Study Area Map line 29 by the East Fork of the Lewis River you will see where the pictures I will be posting on my blog come from. Please say a prayer for the people, plants, animals, and waterways that exsist in the path of these proposed power lines. As the plants, animals and waterways cannot speak for themselves I will do my best to show you what a treasure we all stand to lose in this valley that supports steelhead fishing, kayaking, swimming, hiking, christmas tree hunting, huckleberry picking, sledding, abundant wildlife I see first hand on my property including Black Bear, Deer, Bobcats, Cougar, Coyote, Mountain Beaver, Eagle, Albino Salamanders, many types of Woodpeckers, hummingbirds, doves, chipmunks, squirrels, weasels..etc. my passion the plants is an even longer list. The Last Rays of Summer 09

Busy, busy, busy that is how this summer has been at my house. Full of wonderful trips, momentous occasion's, gardening, flowers, family and friends.
Trips to the beach brought the absolute best memories of the summer. It is a place where you can see forever and imagine all possibilities or relax and think of nothing. We have one more beach trip to bike and stay in a Yurt. Can't wait to see all the wonderful things BarnHouse has in store tomorrow and see my Fellow Farmchicks Florence, Katy and Robin. Then off again with family and friends.

Robert the Bruce & The Land of Tarte

Meet Robert the Bruce one of the most charming visitors to The Land of Tarte last Saturday. He was adorable and captivated my heart along with his wonderful mother a fellow lover of the Highland Games. My Grandfather was a Highlander who always had scotty dogs.
So many wonderful people were a part of this show Linda and Ludmil of Willows Nest who blessed us all with their presence, talent and grace. Linda was especially kind to me in word and deed sharing pink glitter which will become part of something preciously treasured. Joe of Barn House who shared display expertise, gathering prowess and humor to make the day SHINE. Heather Bulliard and her husband wonderful picture taking and enjoyable conversation. Diana of Annie, Fannie & Abigail who becomes more and more Dear with time and talented. All those beautiful green apples became apple pie filing, the Garden sign adds so much to the Garden, and the grapes were gratefully enjoyed.
And especially, Cindy who orchestrates everything so Artfully, calmly, kind, you are teaching me to think GRAND ... thank you.
Barry (aka The King) is pretty awesome too, hope you work on that invention Barry.

It has been a busy summer full of new friends to meet, inspirations, skills to learn, and things to laugh about such as our new kitten Juneau's combination of spunk and sweetness or my daughters hilarious description of things read over the loud speaker at the store she is working at such as "Talk to your Pharmacist about Shingles a painful rash to people over 50, have fun buying produce" of course she relayed the story much better than I have. These things that make us smile.. Seeing the incredible displays and settings Willow's Nest, Barn House, Annie, Fannie and Abigail, Queen of Tarte and all the wonderful Vendors we know create to help us dream. Watching our pets, plants, or people in our lives do or say the things that make our world stop for a moment and enter the space of Awe.

With deep gratitude to all the people, places, pets and plants here for making me smile.

A Full Fledged Adult

This past weekend was filled with the 21st Birthday of my lovely daughter. Beach trips have been a birthday tradition for us since she was quite young. It is amazing how quickly we go from child to adult and the constants that weave through our lives.

They brought back days not so long ago when my full fledged adult did the same.

Do You Believe in Miracles?

How miraculous is your life?? Every day brings new miracles into my life. I just celebrated my 15th anniversary with a miracle, my husband Mark. He came into my life at a time when I believed getting married once was enough. He saw all the deep dark things and all the bright horizons possible too. We have walked toward the horizons ever since with his mandolin playing, forever book loving, mountain man steady, honesty. I really like who he is. He adopted my girls with me and is a wonderful father. Then there is my son we met when he was 2
, when he was 4 he asked if he could call me Mom, when he was 7 and I was pregnant with Lynsey he asked if I would still want him, when he was 26 he asked if he could have his wedding reception here with 100 friends camping out and his other mother(she and I get along great another miracle), sister, and brother.
It was wonderful. Brandon is a miraculous part of my life. Lynsey is a miracle because I lost a baby prior to my pregnancy with her and was told she was an impossibility and Alyssa is just a wonder. These are the steady miracles in my life but there is more on a recent trip 3 miracles happened.
On a day that was not going so well standing by a newspaper box for 30 minutes alone, waiting wondering why am I here?? A family went by stroller, Mom, Dad, son and young daughter who said "I love your jewelry" snap the mode was gone a miracle moment had occurred in my very midst. There was more to come.. while walking the beach I needed to take a bathroom break but the only one was a looooooong way off the option was presented to go behind a log but that is not my style and crazy person me would not leave someone alone on the beach(my problem not the other persons) so I sat on a rock for a while and took some great pictures of the Puget Sound. Just then a German Shepard came up and kissed me on the cheek and just sat there by me for about 5 minutes peacefully. It may not sound to miraculous to you but if you knew me you would know when in 4th grade my right leg was attacked and bit by a dog so to have one bring such a sense of calm and serenity was a blessing. Then the night before last a neighbor called and asked if I had a kitchen faucet on hand, well guess what I did and ran it down so this neighbor could put it in another neighbors kitchen. Ann who needed it is a sweet single woman and the fact she lives up here on her own a miracle to begin with. The fact she always looks after all of us well she is precious and last night she let me know what a miracle it was in her life at this moment which opened up the floodgates for another neighbor to talk about some issues and then end up calling me at 11:00 at night to say "You really helped me to look at love in a different way Thank You." If you knew this dear friend of mine you would say that is a big miracle.

Spinning

We have visited these same places many times before yet as time spins on before us every moment is new and uncharted. This year we posed for our traditional picture among the lavender at Jardin du Soleil,
listened to the sounds of Geoffrey Castle's electric violin at Purple Haze. I purchased a beautiful print from Geofrey's wife Shannon Castle(very talented creates large graphite pieces on glass) Enjoyed watching the gracious, fun personalities of Mike and Rosalind Reichner(Roslind and Shannon are pictured together here) of Purple Haze Lavender Farm, what hosts. And the best part for me personally was watching this little girl spinning to the music with her scarf. Oh to be so care free, what a blessing in itself.
My spirit longs to be this confident and carefree
in public. Although Rosalind Reichner went out
to dance with her and the little gal ran off to the
side. What beautifully fragrant memories
to carry home.

HOW TO EXTRACT ROSE PETAL JUICE

This is for use with the Rose Petal Jelly,
Gather rose petals...don't get stung...rinse gently...enjoy the aroma... I use Rugosa Rose Petals that are organic no pesticides!! Very important you are going to be eating this, be smart, be safe, be healthy. Pack rose petals tightly into a measuring cup to 1 1/2 cups. Place in a large saucepan and crush petals with a potato masher or glass. Add 2 1/4 cups water and bring to a boil. Simmer the petals until they have washed-out color. Strain the liquid. Beautiful rich pink color and excellent fragrance you can actually use this as a light perfume spray if you store it in the fridge, last about 2 weeks. Yield: Approximately 2 cups

Tonight I was up in the upper garden late tying up peas, weeding just as the sun was setting I headed in just in time to see my DEER friend. She is usually by twice a day morning and evening. It had been a week though if you saw my previous post you saw her very pregnant. Here she was with her two new children. It was getting dark so I hope the pictures came out if not she will be by tomorrow. They were so adorable it reminds you how precious this life is. This is the third set of twins she has shared with me. She is a strict mother and occasionally lets her children know where the line is, strong yet loving, so glad she shared.

Wow! Hard to believe it was only one weekend back that my best friends and I headed out to The FarmChick's sale in Spokane. It was a wonderful trip and my friend's kindly rushed me back just in time for my daughter's Baccalaureate. So much to see and do we visited Buggy Barn(Quilt Shop), Mary Janes Store in Coeur d'Alene, Chap's, and of course all our special friends at The FarmChick's Sale like Auntie Joy, Barn House, Tarte, Maison Douce, A Thing for Rose's. We also made new friends and found new favorite places and spaces to visit, Retreat, The Country Store, Chap's, Found Object Gems and Needful Things, campwhimsy, Dusty Daisies, Garden Girl, Cedar House Soaps, Two Women, Shabby Scraps, The Rusty Bird, Luluz, Little Byrd . What incredible vendors and people!!! Thank You Serena & Teri... looking forward to next year.

Little Farmchick Fun

These adorable girls were waiting in line at FarmChicks and patiently playing jumprope games. It charmed my heart for 2 reasons, 1 my girls use to do the same thing usually in line at the grocery store not so very long ago, and 2 the daisy skirt which was a definate theme for the day. We had previously seen a daisy quilt we all loved at Buggy Barn. Their Mom and her friends were infront of us in line and she kept apologizing. I told her it was great that she brought them. We girls need to share our great skills and especially our great loves it enriches us all. One of the ladies in their group rushed in late to join them. We told her it was fine. She was dressed all fancy but embarressed. She had two different shoes on. Wish I could have told her how great it was to know we are all human and that the shoes didn't matter she still looked fantastic. In fact it gave me hope that I might look that great someday.
These are just a few of the great things to silently smile about at The FarmChick's Sale. These memories are worth more than anything purchased.

As Valentine's Day approaches I'am appreciating all the precious people in my world. Today my Husband was awesome, kind and loving. My children were enlightening. I heard from all my best friends and made plans for continuing creative adventures. My baby sister called while walking Conan the Cat and one of my brothers called. It snowed three inches. The "girls" my ever visiting deer came by making me feel very "Lucky" my word for today. Hope you are feeling the same.
